What I believe about environmental science, learners, and the role of technology in a modern classroom.

Student-Centered Learning

Students learn best when they're doing the thinking. I design lessons that put their questions, observations, and reasoning at the center — and step back so they can lead.

Inquiry & Evidence

Environmental science is a way of knowing, not a list of facts. I prioritize investigation, data, and evidence-based argument so students experience how scientists make sense of complex systems.

NGSS-Aligned Practice

I plan around three-dimensional learning — disciplinary core ideas, science and engineering practices, and crosscutting concepts — so students build coherent understanding over time.

Meaningful Technology Integration

Technology earns its place when it engages students with content, enhances learning, and extends thinking beyond the classroom (Triple E). If a tool doesn't do that, it doesn't belong in the lesson.

Accessibility & Belonging

Every student deserves a clear entry point and a path forward. I plan with UDL in mind, design for strong color contrast and readable materials, and build a classroom where students feel safe to take intellectual risks.

Continuous Professional Growth

Good teaching is iterative. I reflect on lessons, study new research, and learn from colleagues to keep my practice fresh and grounded.

In Practice

  • Lessons open with a phenomenon or question, not a definition.
  • Students collect, share, and argue from evidence as part of normal classwork.
  • Assessment is frequent, low-stakes, and focused on growth.
  • Digital tools are chosen for what they let students do, not because they're new.
  • Feedback is fast, specific, and aimed at the next step.
